Low Stellar Obliquities in Compact Multiplanet Systems
We measure the sky-projected stellar obliquities (λ) in the multiple-transiting planetary systems KOI-94 and Kepler-25, using the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect. In both cases the host stars are well-aligned with the orbital planes of the planets. For KOI-94 we find λ = −11±11◦, confirming a recent result by Hirano and coworkers. Kepler-25 was a more challenging case because the transit depth is un...
متن کاملThe stellar activity - rotation relationship
Key words stars: activity – stars: coronae – stars: late-type – stars: magnetic fields – stars: rotation – X-rays: stars Using a new catalog of 824 solar and late-type stars with measured X-ray luminosities and rotation periods we have studied the relationship between rotation and stellar activity that is believed to be a probe of the underlying stellar dynamo. Using an unbiased subset of the s...
متن کاملEffects of Uniform and Differential Rotation on Stellar Pulsations
We have investigated the effects of uniform rotation and a specific model for differential rotation on the pulsation frequencies of 10 M⊙ stellar models. Uniform rotation decreases the frequencies for all modes. Differential rotation does not appear to have a significant effect on the frequencies, except for the most extreme differentially rotating models. In all cases, the large and small sepa...
متن کاملStellar Ages from Stellar Rotation
Our ability to determine stellar ages from measurements of stellar rotation, hinges on how well we can measure the dependence of rotation on age for stars of different masses. Rotation periods for stars in open clusters are essential to determine the relations between stellar age, rotation, and mass (color). Until recently, ambiguities in v sin i data and lack of cluster membership information,...
متن کاملAsteroseismology and Stellar Rotation
We discuss how the structure and oscillation frequencies of delta Scuti stars are aaected by fast rotation. We investigate the impact of these changes on our interpretation of observed frequencies used in an as-teroseismic analysis. We nd that, to rst order, frequency ratios between pairs of radial modes are not sensitive to rotation. However, for non-radial modes we nd that second-order terms ...
